New Delhi, April 30 -- India has reportedly opposed the inclusion of a hazardous insecticide under the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants, an international environmental treaty to protect human health and the environment.

The insecticide, Chlorpyrifos, is a chemical linked to adverse effects on neurodevelopment, reduced birth size, lung and prostate cancer upon chronic exposure.

Delegates from across the world gathered at meetings of the conferences of the Parties to the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm (BRS) conventions in Geneva, Switzerland, from April 28 to May 9, 2025.
