U.S, Dec. 31 -- Tanzanian conservation and aviation authorities are investigating the cause of a tragic helicopter crash on Mount Kilimanjaro that killed five people on Christmas Eve during a medical rescue mission.
The victims include two tourists from the Czech Republic, a Tanzanian doctor, a Tanzanian tour guide, and a Zimbabwean pilot, who has since been widely described as a hero for attempting a high-risk rescue under extreme conditions.
A Rescue Mission That Turned Fatal
According to the Tanzania National Parks Authority (TANAPA), the helicopter-operated by KiliMedair Company-was dispatched to evacuate two Czech climbers who fell seriously ill while attempting to summit Africa's highest mountain.
