Srilanka, Oct. 19 -- Sri Lanka's lawmakers took pride on Sri Lanka's strategic location in the Indian Ocean region for maritime trade and its contribution to the economy in their presentations at the 'Voyage Sri Lanka 2025' Maritime Summit in Colombo last week.

The status of Sri Lanka's ports globally, particularly the Colombo Port, for its transshipment businesses and the regional ports being positioned close to major sea rotes in the region was stressed by Minister of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development, Sunil Handunnetti and Deputy Minister of Economic Development.

Minister Handunneththi outlined the need to tap the vast potential of the boat-building industry and marine tourism for the economy.
