Singapore, March 4 -- An awards-season favourite this year was A Beautiful Day In The Neighbourhood, the uplifting story of America's beloved children's television icon Fred Rogers, played by Tom Hanks in an Oscar-nominated turn.

But film-makers Marielle Heller and Peter Saraf say the late Rogers actually makes a lousy movie protagonist.

This is because he was such a good man, he did not need to go on the usual "hero's journey" for the film, which opens in Singapore tomorrow.

Instead, his gift was helping others go on their journey.
