France, May 12 -- A French cyber security agency that helped expose Russian interference in Romania's cancelled presidential vote last year has warned the same tactics could be used again, as the country prepares for a second round of elections on 18 May.

Viginum, the French government body responsible for monitoring foreign digital interference, published a detailed report uncovering a large-scale Russian influence operation that used TikTok to sway Romania's presidential race in December last year.

The campaign, backed by Russian-linked networks, boosted fringe candidate Calin Georgescu and ultimately led Romanian authorities to annulthe vote.
