New Delhi, Jan. 7 -- The National Weather Service scaled back its winter storm warning to a winter weather advisory for elevations above 11,000 feet on Tuesday, after snow, ice, and fog blanketed the highest peaks of the Hawaiian Islands, including the summits of Maunakea and Mauna Loa, according to a report by SFGATE.
The wintry conditions were caused by a storm system known locally as a "Kona low," which developed over the islands, lowering temperatures and bringing several days of heavy rain.
