New Delhi, June 9 -- Eight passengers fell off a overcrowded local train near Mumbra railway station in Maharashtra, officials said on Monday, June 9. "The reason for the accident is believed to be excessive crowd on the train," the Central Railways said.

The Central Railways informed that some passengers travelling towards Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus in Mumbai fell from the train at Thane's Mumbra railway station.

"The railway administration and police have reached the spot," it added.

Those injured were taken immediately to the nearest hospital. The Central Railways said investigation into the accident has begun.

"Local services have also been affected by the incident," it added.
