New Delhi, March 4 -- In a significant judgement, the Madras High Court recently said that no caste can claim ownership of a temple, which could be worshipped, managed, and administered by all devotees, reported LiveLaw.
It also said that administering a temple by a particular caste is not a religious practice that could be protected under Article 25 and Article 26 of the Constitution.
The court made these observations while hearing a plea by petitioner C Ganesan to direct the Assistant Commissioner, Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowment Department to separate Arulmighu Ponkaliamman Temple from the group of Temples consisting of Arulmighu Mariamman, Angalamman and Perumal Temples and Arulmighu Ponkaliamman Temple within a time limit ...
