New Delhi, Sept. 12 -- Jagdeep Chhokar, known for championing electoral and political reforms in the country, died in New Delhi on Friday, 12 September, after suffering a heart attack. Chhokar was 80 and is survived by his wife, Kiran Chokkar.

Chokkar was the founding member of the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), the election watchdog body behind many crucial petitions in the Supreme Court of India. The ADR is one of the petitioners in the ongoing case in the top court regarding the Election Commission of India's Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise of electoral rolls in poll-bound Bihar.
