New Delhi, Nov. 5 -- Guru Nanak Jayanti, also known as Gurpurab, is celebrated to commemorate the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of Sikhism and the first of the ten Sikh Gurus.

It's one of the most sacred and widely celebrated festivals in the Sikh religion.

Guru Nanak Jayanti marks the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. He was born in 1469 in Talwandi, now called Nankana Sahib, in present-day Pakistan.

This day honours Guru Nanak's birth and divine mission to spread peace, love, and oneness, his teachings, which form the foundation of Sikh philosophy and values, and his contribution to social reform, emphasising honesty, humility, and equality among all.
