New Delhi, Jan. 27 -- A magnitude 3.8 earthquake struck early Monday morning, approximately 7 miles southeast of York Harbor, Maine, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). The quake, which originated at a depth of about 8 miles, was felt across a wide area, from Boston, Massachusetts, to Portland, Maine.

While earthquakes are rare in the New England region, this event serves as a reminder that seismic activity, though unusual, is not unheard of along the Atlantic Seaboard. The USGS Earthquakes division noted on X (formerly Twitter), "Earthquakes are unusual but not unheard of along the Atlantic Seaboard."
