New Delhi, Feb. 21 -- In a big win for President Donald Trump, a US District court on Thursday ruled that his administration can continue mass firings of federal employees for now. The court rejected a plea filed by a group of labour unions to halt Trump's dramatic downsizing efforts to cut the federal workforce.

US District Judge Christopher Cooper in Washington, D.C., said Trump's onslaught of executive actions in his first month in office has caused "disruption and even chaos in widespread quarters of American society." But he said he likely lacks the power to decide whether firing tens of thousands of government workers is lawful.
