New Delhi, Jan. 27 -- The Supreme Court has appointed retired Justice Jaishree Thakur of the Punjab and Haryana High Court to independently observe the Chandigarh mayoral election scheduled for January 30. A bench of Justices Surya Kant and N Kotiswar Singh said, "We deem it appropriate to appoint Justice Jaishree Thakur, former Judge of Punjab & Haryana High Court as the independent observer."
The top court ordered the election proceedings to be conducted in the physical presence of the observer and directed that the process be properly videographed. The returning officer of the mayoral election to contact Justice Jaishree Thakur and coordinate with her before the election date.
