New Delhi, Feb. 19 -- Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin on February 19 stirred controversy and said that the imposition of Hindi would threaten the survival of Tamil language, similar to its impact on various North Indian languages, such as Rajasthani, Haryanvi, Bhojpuri, and Bihari languages.

"Hindi destroyed the local languages of states in the north such as Rajasthn, Haryanvi, Bhojpuri and other Bihari languages and has become the primary local language. The same will happen if Hindi is implemented in Tamil Nadu too," he said as quoted by Times of India.

He added that nearly 99 percent of Tamils working in prestigious organisations like ISRO or abroad "were from govt schools who did not study Hindi."
