Sri Lanka, April 18 -- The Meteorology Department said that due to a disturbance in the lower atmosphere in the vicinity of the island, severe lightning and rain will prevail further.

The Department said that more than 100mm of rain could be experienced in the Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern, Uva, Western and Northwestern Provinces as well as certain places in the Mannar and Anuradhapura districts.

At the same time, as a result, of the active system of clouds that exist in the sea areas off the South-east of the island, sea areas off the coast of Matara to Hambantota and across Trincomalee will experience heavy rains. The speed of the wind can increase suddenly to between 70 - 80 kilometers per hour.
