India, April 22 -- Alzheimer's disease is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder that affects memory, behaviour and thinking capabilities of a person. In older adults, Alzheimer's s one of the leading causes of dementia. Alzheimer's is often inherited from the family tree and depends upon the gender of the person.

However, according to a recent study, it was observed that women accumulate more of the tau protein associated with Alzheimer's but are more resistant to brain shrinkage. Alzheimer's inherited from paternal side of the family can have greater risk.
