Bhubaneswar, May 20 -- A Pocso court in Bargarh district of Odisha on Monday sentenced a 37-year-old man to life imprisonment for raping his 12-year-old daughter in 2020, describing it as "barbaric" case where the "protector turned predator". Special judge Kiran Kumar Pradhan pronounced the order after finding the accused guilty of aggravated sexual assault under section 6 of the Pocso Act and under several sections, including 376(AB) (committing rape on a woman under 12 years of age), of the IPC. The case stems from a complaint filed by the girl at the Bargarh police station in February 2020, alleging that her father raped her on multiple occasions.
