Nainital, May 17 -- The Uttarakhand High Court is currently hearing multiple petitions and Public Interest Litigations (PILs) challenging the state government's decision to appoint outgoing heads of district and village panchayats as administrators. These petitions have alleged that the government, instead of conducting timely elections, is deliberately delaying the panchayat elections. The case had another hearing in the court today where a division bench comprising Chief Justice G Narendar and Justice Alok Mehra directed the state government to present a clear timeline by 20 May for holding the panchayat elections. The court has fixed the next hearing for 20 May.
