Dehradun, Feb. 12 -- History was made in the race walk event at the 38th National Games being held in Uttarakhand, as the long-standing record in the men's 20km race walk was shattered after 14 years. In 2011, Gurmeet Singh of Jharkhand had set the National Games record by completing the race in 1 hour 23 minutes and 26 seconds, a benchmark that was surpassed by six Indian athletes this time.
Leading the charge, Servin Sebastian (Services) clocked 1 hour 21 minutes and 23 seconds, setting a new National Games record. In addition, Suraj Panwar (Uttarakhand), Amanjot Singh (Punjab), Paramjit Singh (Services), Ram Babu (Uttar Pradesh), and Mukesh Nitharwal (Rajasthan) also finished with better timings than Gurmeet Singh's 2011 record.
