New Delhi, Sept. 19 -- Summary Nigeria's burgeoning plastic waste problem presents a unique opportunity for the fashion industry.

By converting plastic waste into textiles, Nigeria could reduce pollution, create jobs, and carve a niche in sustainable fashion.

However, challenges such as poor infrastructure, consumer perceptions, and policy gaps must be addressed to fully realise this potential.

On any street in Lagos, Abuja or Port Harcourt, you'll find abandoned plastic bottles lying around. Each year, about 2.5 million tonnes of plastic waste are produced in Nigeria and much of it winds up in landfills or in the environment.
