Tashkent, June 22 -- The global number of confirmed COVID-19 cases exceeded 8.7 million as of Sunday night, with over 461,000 fatalities, said the World Health Organization (WHO) on Sunday.

The global caseload of COVID-19 rose to 8,708,008, including 461,715 deaths, according to WHO.

The number of COVID-19 cases in the United States topped 2.27 million on Sunday, as a host of U.S. states have seen a sharp climb of cases in recent days.

The number of confirmed cases reached 2,275,319 as of 00:22 GMT Monday, with 119,959 deaths, according to the Center for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University.
