U.S., May 11 -- According to local news sources, the newly elected German Chancellor Friedrich Merz is set to declare a national emergency to address Germany's migration crisis.
Merz, who assumed office last Tuesday, stated that his administration would initiate the process of repelling illegal migrants at the border. Germany continues to be the primary destination for asylum seekers within the European Union, having received over 237,000 asylum applications last year, which accounts for a quarter of the total applications across the 27-member bloc.
Berlin has reportedly already notified the ambassadors of neighboring countries regarding the chancellor's decision to declare a national emergency.
