New Delhi, April 7 -- Ministry of Shipping (MoS) on Tuesday announced a slew of precautionary measures to ensure smooth functioning of shipping and port operations in the wake of Covid lockdown.

The total traffic handled at Major Indian Ports from April to March 2020 was 704.63 Million Tonnes as against 699.10 Million Tonnes handled during the corresponding period of the previous year, showing an overall growth of 0.82 per cent in the traffic handled, the Ministry said in a statement.

Meanwhile, MoS has taken numerous precautionary measures to contain the spread the global pandemic, such as thermal screening as many as 46,202 passengers between January 27 to April 4 at Indian ports.
