Thane, Aug. 13 -- In view of the flood situation in the state, the students' wing of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) has urged city Mayor Meenakshi Shinde to cancel the Thane Marathon and use the same funds for the relief of people who have lost their livelihoods in the floods. MNS students' wing president Sandeep Pachange said in a press note here that around Rs.60 to Rs.75 lakh are spent every year on Thane Mayor Marathon and requested the Mayor to give these funds to the flood-affected people, instead. He further stated that not only political leaders but even citizens are coming forward to help the flood-hit victims and pointed it would be insensitive if the Mayor instead of helping the needy spend such a huge sum on a marathon.
