Paris, May 16 -- Two-time French Open champion Maria Sharapova has withdrawn from this year's French Open after failing to recover fully from shoulder surgery.

"Withdrawing from the French Open on today. Sometimes the right decisions aren't always the easiest ones," Sharapova said in a post on her Instagram on Wednesday.

''In better news, I have returned to the practice court, and slowly building the strength back in my shoulder. I really miss you Paris, until next year'', she added.

The former world number one has not played since the end of January and underwent shoulder surgery at the end of February.
