Kasaragod, April 8 -- The unrelenting efforts by the Kerala Government in getting the border on the Kozhikode-Mangalore National Highway opened for the critically-ill patients from here for urgent and speciality medical care has bared fruits with the Karnataka authorities finally gave nod from Wednesday to open its check post at Thalapadi near here for 'designated' patients to cross over to Mangalore.

The border had been closed for anyone to cross over, including the critically ill, to Mangalore ever since Kasaragod has been declared as a Covid-19 hotspot in mid-March.

The issue had reached the Supreme Court recently and an amicable settlement has been reached between the two states on certain conditions.
