Kochi, Aug. 1 -- In the gold smuggling case, former principal secretary to chief minister M Sivasankar revealed that Swapna Suresh, the second accused in the case, phoned him seeking intervention in his part for releasing the baggage seized by Customs.

He noted that he refused to help Swapna and declared that he will not intervene in the baggage issue.

Sivasankar, in his statement to NIA, said "as it was a matter related to the UAE consulate, I refused to intervene in it", NIA sources said on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the investigating agencies had seized one kg of gold and Rs one crore in cash from the locker jointly owned by the chartered accountant and Swapna.
