New Delhi, April 20 -- The Election Commission on Saturday issued a showcase notice to Congress leader and cricketer-turned politician Navjot Singh Sidhu for violation of Model Code of Conduct (MCC).

The poll body has given 24 hours to Mr Sidhu to explain his position for the Commission's notice.

According to the Commission order, Mr Sidhu has violated MCC prima facie by making statements on religious line.

Mr Sidhu, while addressing a rally in Bihar's Katihar district, had allegedly urged Muslim community to vote en bloc to defeat Narendra Modi -led BJP in the Lok Sabha election.
