Bangladesh, Dec. 8 -- A court here on Sunday placed Abdur Rahman Saikat, who was detained on Saturday night over the mysterious death of Stamford University student Rubaiyat Sharmin Rumpa, on a 4-day remand.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Mamunur Rashid passed the when investigation officer of the case and also inspector of detective branch of police Shah Md Akteruzzaman produced him before the court seeking a seven-day remand for interrogation.

The court also rejected a bail petition filed by Saikat's lawyer.

On Saturday, detectives detained Saikat for interrogation over the death of Rumpa, who was found dead in an alley under mysterious circumstances.

Later, Saikat was shown arrested.
