Dhaka, March 15 -- In an effort to check land wastage, the government has taken an initiative to build multi-storey buildings after demolishing luxurious two-storey ones allotted to ministers and high government officials, including secretaries, in the city's VIP areas.

Under the project, the government has already constructed a 10-storey building at a cost of Tk 53 crore at Minto Road where 10 ministers can be accommodated, Housing and Public Works Minister SM Rezaul Karim has said in an interview with UNB.

The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec) approved the project on October 13, 2015 to construct multi-storey buildings in the VIP areas, including Minto Road, Hare Road and Bailey Road.
