Dhaka, June 5 -- BNP on Wednesday slammed the government for creating confusion over the sighting of the moon and said it happened for the lack of good governance.

"What happen yesterday (over moon sighting) is I think an outcome of the lack of good governance in the country," said BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

Talking to reporters after paying homage to BNP founder Ziaur Rahman at Sher-E-Bangla Nagar, he said, "They (government) first announced by 8:30pm that the moon was not sighted and Eid will be celebrated on Thursday.

"Later, the state minister for religion came up with amended announcement around 11pm saying the moon had been sighted."
