Kurigram, July 27 -- The overall flood situation in Kurigram district showed no sign of improvement on Saturday as Brahmaputra and Dharala rivers kept flowing above the danger level.

The sufferings of around a million flood-hit people worsened due to acute shortage of food, drinking water, sanitation and fodder.

Deputy Commissioner Sultana Parveen said at least 19 people, including nine children, drowned and two women remained missing in the district.

The water level of the Brahmaputra River at Chilmari point was 19cm above the danger level while Dharala River was flowing 21cm above the danger level at Setu point in the morning.
