India, April 21 -- The Umling La Pass, perched on the ridgeline intersection of the Indus River and Koyul Lungpa, has reopened for vehicular traffic nearly two months ahead of its scheduled clearance after swift snow removal efforts by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO). Umling La Pass set a Guinness World Record as the 'world's highest motorable road' in 2021. The road is a connector between the strategically sensitive Demchok area along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China, and serves as a vital route for both military logistics and, in recent years, quite a bit of "battlefield tourism" in India.
