India, Oct. 15 -- In Singapore, Orchard Road's quieter and possibly more colourful sibling, Emerald Hill, awaits a short walk (1.1 km to be precise) away. Once a nutmeg and fruit plantation site owned by Singapore's acting postmaster general, William Cuppage, in the 1800s, the hill was eventually claimed by businessmen Seah Eng and Seah Boon Kang, who led the neighbourhood's residential transformation in the 1900s. To date, Emerald Hill retains its vibrant shophouses and terrace houses, all swathed in Chinese Baroque architecture.
Visitors can expect a medley of European and Chinese design influences, perfect for a storybook brunch at sun-drenched shophouse cafes, soaking up colour, culture, and Peranakan-inspired cocktails
