India, Oct. 29 -- The Uttarakhand State Transport Department has announced a green tax for out-of-state vehicles entering the state, effective December 1, 2025. Introduced to mark the 25th anniversary of Uttarakhand's formation, the tax aims to generate dedicated revenue for protecting the fragile Himalayan ecosystem. It is part of the government's broader initiative to promote responsible travel, curb vehicular pollution, and enhance cleanliness across the state. The funds collected will also support the development of sustainable transport infrastructure in Uttarakhand.
Vehicles that are exempt from the taxes include:
Uttarakhand-registered vehicles
Electric Vehicles
CNG-operated vehicles
Ambulance
Fire brigade
Two-wheelers
