India, Jan. 29 -- Mumbai International Airport has announced plans to redevelop Terminal 1 at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA). The project, set for completion by 2028-29, aims to increase capacity and meet the aviation industry's growing demand. Work will begin in November this year under Phase 1, beginning with demolishing the existing structure. The upgraded terminal will handle 20 million passengers annually, marking a 42 percent increase in capacity.

What does this mean for travellers? During construction, Terminal 2 and the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), which is expected to open in 2025, will manage passenger traffic to ensure smooth operations.
