India, Jan. 27 -- The United States has deployed the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier strike group to the Middle East. The move comes as tensions with Iran remain high over the regime's crackdown on nationwide protests.The carrier group is currently in the Indian Ocean. It is not in the Arabian Sea, which borders Iran directly. U.S. Central Command says the deployment aims to "promote regional security and stability."
This is the first U.S. carrier deployment to the region in months. The previous carrier was sent to pressure Venezuela last October. The Lincoln strike group brings thousands of sailors and powerful weapons back to the area.
