India, Jan. 4 -- Ahead of the upcoming assembly elections, Assam and West Bengal will get the country's first Vande Bharat sleeper train. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to flag off the Vande Bharat sleeper train on January 17 or 18, 2026.
The train will run from Guwahati in Assam to Kolkata in West Bengal. It will reduce the travel time between Guwahati and Kolkata by approximately 3 hours. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw inspected this train at New Delhi Railway station on Saturday. After the running of this train, Kamrup Metropolitan and Bongaigaon districts of Assam state and Coochbehar, Jalpaiguri, Maldah, Murshidabad, Purba Bardhaman, Hooghly, Howrah districts of West Bengal state will be benefited.
