Srinagar, Aug. 3 -- The fierce encounter between security forces and terrorists holed up in the dense Akhal forest area of South Kashmir's Kulgam district has entered its third day, with intermittent gunfire and blasts continuing through the night, officials said on Sunday.

The joint operation was launched on Friday based on credible intelligence about terrorist presence in the area. So far, two terrorists have been killed, while another is believed to be wounded. One soldier sustained injuries and is undergoing treatment, according to officials.

Sources suggest that this could be one of the most significant anti-terror operations of the year.
