Chandigarh, May 27 -- A man was killed in a powerful explosion near the Majitha Road Bypass in Amritsar on Tuesday morning around 9:30 AM. The blast was so intense that both of the victim's arms were blown off above the wrists.

Alarmed by the loud noise, residents from nearby areas rushed to the scene and immediately informed the police.

Upon reaching the spot, police cordoned off the area and began a preliminary investigation. Officials have, for now, ruled out the involvement of any gangsters or terrorists.

Initial police findings suggest the man might have been a scrap dealer who was possibly trying to dismantle an old bomb that he had come across in the scrap.
