New Delhi: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has signaled a major reshuffle in the BJP's candidate list ahead of the 2026 Assam Assembly elections, declaring that many sitting MLAs may not be re-nominated due to constituency realignments and strategic adjustments.
Sarma said several current legislators would be dropped or step aside voluntarily as the party prepares to field fresh faces across many seats. "It will not be possible for every sitting MLA to be given a ticket," he told reporters, citing the impact of delimitation, which has earmarked certain seats for SC/ST candidates.
