Chandigarh, Aug. 31 -- In a display of courage and swift action, sappers of Kharga Corps rescued a woman who had recently undergone a caesarean operation along with her 15-day-old baby from flood-affected Dhangai village in Gurdaspur district on Saturday.
The mother and child had been trapped for the past four days on the first floor of a completely submerged house. Once alerted to their plight, the rescue team immediately moved in and reached them using an improvised ladder. Braving strong water currents, the sappers evacuated them in a boat for nearly three kilometres before transferring them into an army vehicle. The vehicle then navigated 15 kilometres of submerged and difficult terrain to bring them to safety.
