AMBALA, Nov. 21 -- DEPUTY Commissioner Ashok Kumar Sharma said that all sarpanches should make the villages free from polythene and single-use plastic. He said the people should be educated as to how much damage polythene causes to life.

The DC was addressing a district- level conference of women sarpanches organised by the Women and Child Development Department at Panchayat Bhavan.

The Deputy Commissioner also visited an exhibition and nutrition fair organised by the department. He said that such awareness conferences should be held regularly.

He called upon the women sarpanches to exercise their rights and powers and play an important role in leading the villagers. The administration will support them in this task, he said.
