Iran, Oct. 11 -- A fire has erupted after an explosion on an Iranian oil tanker off the coast of Saudi Arabia on Friday.

The vessel belongs to National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC), which was 60 miles (97 kilometres) from the port city of Jeddah when the incident took place.

The ship's two main storage tanks have been damaged by the inferno and are spilling oil into the Red Sea.

No reports of injuries have been received so far.

Earlier, United States had accused Iran for six oil tanker attacks between May and July.
