Nigeria, July 2 -- In a bold step in Niger State redesign of healthcare delivery, Governor Mohammed Umar Bago made the declaration of an emergency intervention on General Hospital, Minna, by calling for the outright reconstruction of the aged hospital.

The declaration is part of an overall state-driven effort towards rehabilitating and upgrading public health facilities.

The choice was made public after a State Executive Council meeting in Minna, demonstrating increasing concern over the condition of the hospital. The hospital was constructed over a half-century ago, and it has not been able to fit the requirements of a fast-increasing population.
