SRINAGAR, Oct. 15 -- The National Institute of Technology (NIT), Srinagar reopened on Tuesday though the attendance of students was very less. About 30 students, mostly from outside, attended the institute on the first day, official sources said. However, the administration said students from outside the valley are also coming to join their classes.

The NIT was closed and students from outside the valley were directed to vacate their hotel room and leave for their respective homes as a precautionary measure few days before the special status of the state was withdrawn. Adequate number of security forces have been deployed near the NIT at Hazratbal, Srinagar to prevent any untoward incident.
