The announcement, made on Wednesday, came after days of market turmoil fueled by concerns that the tariff hikes would push the economy into recession.

The news provided immediate relief, with US stocks soaring. The Dow rose nearly 8%, while the Nasdaq surged over 12%, marking its best day in 24 years. The S&P 500 climbed 9.5%, its best performance since 2008 and the third-largest one-day gain since World War II.
