BARAMULLA, April 2 -- A local court in Pattan here in North Kashmir's Baramulla district has convicted a man in a cheque bounce case, sentencing him to six months of simple imprisonment and directing him to pay Rs 4 lakh as compensation to the complainant within 30 days.
Judicial Magistrate/Sub-Judge Pattan, Altaf Ahmad Khan, issued a detailed 51-page judgment, convicting Mushtaq Ahmad Mir, a resident of Sherpora Pattan, under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act.
According to court records, Mir had issued a cheque to Muhammad Ramzan Wani of Khore Pattan in 2018. However, the cheque was dishonored by J&K Bank's Sonim branch, prompting Wani to file a complaint before the Pattan court. After years of legal proceedings, the court ...
