Srinagar, June 4 -- Globally, tobacco kills more than seven million people every year, and over a million of those deaths occur in India. According to recent data, the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir ranks sixth in the country in terms of tobacco consumption, with over one-fifth of its population currently using tobacco in some form. This paints a troubling picture, especially given the known health consequences and the strain it places on families and the healthcare system. The figures from the Global Adult Tobacco Survey reveal that smoking is far more prevalent than smokeless forms of tobacco in Jammu and Kashmir.
