Srinagar, June 30 -- In Jammu and Kashmir, glaciers are vanishing at a disturbing rate. What once appeared to be enduring ice formations in the Himalayas are now visibly retreating, year after year. Scientists estimate that nearly 30 percent of the glaciers in the region have disappeared over the past 60 years. If warming continues at the current pace, up to 70 percent of these glaciers could be lost by the end of this century.
